The family of Canon Tate
William Huntingdon Tate was born 1828 in Drax, Yorkshire. The 1851 census return shows William as an assistant at a school in Rochdale. William marries Anna Catherine Littlewood, daughter of the head schoolmaster in 1852 and togetherthey had
6 daughters and a son.
In 1889 Anna died at the age of 61. William continued as vicar at All Saints Church in Stradbroke until 1908 when he wrote to his parishioners to say Goodbye. He died on 8th October 1912 at the age of 84. The 1911 census shows that at that time there were 5 of his daughters living with him. All five were unmarried.
William left a will and named Colonel Edmund Garrett retired and Frederick Gaskell Ling , solicitor as executors.
