Army Sergeant Charles Emanuel Hugman 1894 - 1977

Army Sergeant Charles Emmanuel Hugman Regt. No. 12736 of the Suffolk Regiment
Charles was born on 28 Jan 1894 in Cirencester to Walter and Emily (nee Ward) Hugman. Charles was one of six children.
He joined the 3rd Battalion the Suffolk Regiment on 31st August 1914 and stated his occupation as ‘Carpenter’.
On 25th August 1917 he married Mabel Victoria Frost
His military discharge record dated 10th June 1919 partially survives but in poor condition. It states that Charles was 5’8” tall with a chest measurement of 34 ¾ inches. He weighed 112lbs, had a fair completion, blue eyes and brown hair. It also states that he was ‘wounded light by enemy air action’ on 22nd July 1917 just a month before his wedding although there is no surviving record of type of injury. Charles saw active service in the Northern Theatre of war.
He survived WW1 and died –registered in Ipswich in September 1977.
